چکیده

EXTENDED ABSTRACT Hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] has long been recognized as a potential carcinogen, via the inhalation route while nowadays, there is an increasing concern that Cr(VI) is also carcinogenic by the oral route of exposure. According to this, governments apply more stringent regulations for chromium species. There are several discussions and intentions to lower the current maximum permissible concentration limit of chromium in drinking water from 50 down to 5-10 μg/L. Fortunately, the remarkable growth in economics and living standards has accelerated the development of appropriate water and wastewater purification technologies. The motivation of this study was to evaluate the technologies available for the efficient removal of Cr(VI) from contaminated water sources (mostly groundwater) at sub-ppb levels in order to become safe for drinking purposes.

Investigation of effective parameters on the performance of NF membrane in simultaneous removal of Cr (VI) and Cu from contaminated water

The present study investigates an NF process for removal of copper and hexavalent chromium, studying the effect of pH (5, 7, 9) as well as contaminants' concentration (50, 500, 5000 µg/L) at a constant pressure of 8 bar; with the recovery rate, regulated at 75±2%. To determine the main factors, affecting the system performance, and evaluate the interaction effects among the factors, the experim...

Effect of anions interaction on the removal efficiency of nanofilters for the potable water treatment

The interaction between the ions and the charge of membranes can affect the efficiency of pollutant removal. The present study investigated the removal efficiency of hexavalent chromium and nitrate ions from both actual and synthetic contaminated water via two different commercial spiral wound polyamide nanofilters. In addition, the interaction of ions under different experimental conditions wa...

Equilibrium and kinetic study on chromium (VI) removal from simulated waste water using gooseberry seeds as a novel biosorbent

Gooseberry seed (Phyllanthus acidus) was used as an adsorbent to determine its feasibility for the removal of Cr(VI). Various parameters such as pH, temperature, contact time, initial metal concentration and adsorbent dosage were investigated to determine the biosorption performance. Equilibrium was attained within 60 minutes and maximum removal of 96% was achieved under the optimum co...

بررسی عملکرد نانوفیلتراسیون در حذف کروم 6 ظرفیتی از آب های حاوی سولفات

Backgrounds and Objectives: Geological situation and/or anthropogenic contamination contain an increased concentration of ions such as hexavalent chromium as well as some other dissolved components such as sulfate in the upper of the establishedMCLs (50µg/L). In this paper, simultaneous removal of Cr (VI) and sulfate from water was investigated using nanofiltration as a promising method for rea...
